How I forwarded my domain to my blog

Welcome back!

Voila!!!

Finally I manage to do it. After hours of effort,mails,and asking people on how to forward by domain to my blog,I find the solution and it works!!!

I have mailed Rediff (who sold me nikhil.co.in) atleast 50 times(yes,50 times) they could not help.
Whatever I do as they suggested, the subdomain blog.nikhil.co.in would go to Google.com
I guessed that is because my blogspot blog does not have a static IP , and everytime I resolve my blogspot blog URL to an IP and try that IP , it leads to Google. So that was the problem.
Rediff kept telling, everything fine from their side. Check with blogger.

Had mailed blogger a couple of times, and they said, it may not work in this specific case blah blah!!!
Please, how can such a simple thing not have an ans.
Poor me, created a tripod page, kept a domain forward there to my blog with the hope that my tripod page would have a static IP! nay, it did not work!! :( Phew!!!! Maddening effort I felt at so many points of time…

Then I thought its high time, I go through Google Groups and yes!! the solution was there! I was not the only one, so many folks faced the exact same problem. I mailed Chuck and he replied.

One thing to note, it takes almost 24 hours for the whole thing to take into effect.

The steps are given below

1)Go to your domain control panel
(In my login to go to Rediff Domains and Control panel of nikhil.co.in)
2)Click on CNAME
3)Enter Alias as whatever you would like to have before your domain name to be your new blogger address. In my case Alias, is blog, so that blog.nikhil.co.in would lead to http:///nikmuse.blogspot.com
4)Next to the Alias field, there would be a field Host Server. Enter ghs.google.com there.
If you do not have a . (dot) after you save the same, edit the Host Server and re enter as ghs.google.com.
5)Now,this is done. Next step is changing settings in blogger.
6)On your blogger Settings tab, click on Publishing.
7)Click on Advanced Settings and enter blog.nikhil.co.in and save the settings
8)You are done!!! :-)

Wait for a day for the whole thing to take into effect. Why ghs.google.com and NOT nikmuse.blogspot.com in this case, is that your question? Check this page for the answer

Hope I am of some use to junta who face the same problem.

Now that you’ve told your hot story to the world, will you promise not to mention it on the phone?

Congrats! That’s an awesome piece of info, though not for poor ppl like me who can’t afford a domain name in their own name! Still might help the odd ambani online!

Hi,

CAn you tell me how to redirect my main domain to my geocities webpage?

I bought my domain using rediff business solutions.

I followed your steps and forwarded my blog to blog.mynewdomain.com

Initially I was trying to forward my main domain to my blog but was unable to do so. What was happenning was that I was gettingan error on my rediff control panel which said that A record already existed for @/www

But I could not see the @/www alias! Why is this happening?

I suspect this may have to do with the free parking that rediff provides.

Please help me to redirect/forward my main domain to another site like my blog or my geocities webpage.

@NJ
I have also tried in vain ! :(

No point mailing rediff, trust me!!!

fwding to geocities is like fwding to blogger, tough I mean…coz.. there is no static IP for your geocities page!

There must be solution, havent explored….
Did you try google groups, searching for an ans for ur question…try that.

Regards

My point is why can’t I edit/delete my A records so that I can point my primary domain to whatever site I wish to point it to?

Does rediff do it to make people subsribe to its pathetic hosting solutions?

So, are you saying that your primary domain points to construction site?

if that is true it sucks.

Hey NJ
See from what I have figured out….
To edit A names you should have a static IP to which http://www.domain.com can be fwded…
but….neither geocities nor a blogger blog will give u a static IP….
so how do u proceed?
Regards
Nikhil

how about deleting A records through registrar & then adding www cname alias pointing to HHS.google.com?

11 Nikhil NarayananNo Gravatar { 12.13.07 at 8:43 am }

@NJ

dunno if they gonna agree but

17 josephNo Gravatar { 01.08.09 at 6:19 pm }

i would like to know how to forward mysite.in to blogger…i can forward http://www.mysite.in but cannot forward mysite.in as it shows the under contruction page by rediff?

18 NikhilNo Gravatar { 01.08.09 at 6:48 pm }

@Keshri
Good.Np
@jamesc @joseph
When I moved from http://nikmuse.blogspot.com to http://blog.nikhil.co.in (on Blogger) , I could not have my blog at http://www.nikhil.co.in or http://nikhil.co.in
I had no choice but to buy hosting space for a simple redirect.
I “guess” now such redirects are supported.
Not sure.Hope this helps.Else let me know, will try out myself.

@jamesc @joseph
Forgot to mention.I did buy hosting space later, but that was for WP install.

Well, Nikhil. The problem you fased is mainly because of:

1. Rediff’s rudimentary DNS Management features in its Domain Control Panel
2. Poor (and well known) after sales technical support from Rediff Hosting
